On 7th February 2004 the very first EuroMillions entries went on sale and it was a Saturday morning many Europeans wouldn’t easily forget. It was a day of hope, as people all over the UK, France and Spain finally had a chance to win millions in a lottery organized by their very own country.

The first EuroMillions draw took place almost a week later, on 13th February 2004 in Paris. Despite it being Friday the 13th, one lucky player started the day as per usual, but ended the day as a millionaire!

After a successful launch and many happy players, lottery organizers from Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland joined in. The more winners this lottery produced the more and more popular this lottery became. Eventually people all over the world wanted to experience the EuroMillions thrill for themselves and the lottery finally became available online.

Like everything, the EuroMillions game evolved too. An extra draw day and extra balls were added to the star number ball set in both 2011 and 2016.

A EuroMillions lottery entry contains a total of 7 numbers.

All players must pick:

• 5 main numbers from a pool of 50 numbers (between 1 – 50)
• 2 “star” numbers from a pool of 12 numbers (between 1 – 12)

As with most lotteries, to win the grand prize, you will need to match all 7 numbers that are drawn by the lottery.

The EuroMillions organizers use 2 machines to draw the numbers. The “Stresa” machine is used to draw the 5 main numbers and the “Paquerette” machine is used to draw the 2 lucky star numbers.

This lottery draws every Tuesday and Friday night in Paris at 20:55 CET. At this point the winning numbers will be announced and if your numbers match the lucky numbers drawn – you’re a winner!
